Stihl hand saws have become one of the most popular hand tools for woodworking, home improvement, hobbies, cutting and trimming. These hand tools have a long history going back at least a century. The popularity of these saws have increased even more over the years due to their ease of use, excellent quality and affordable prices. With more people turning to woodworking as a hobby, the Stihl saw has also become increasingly popular. But, do you know how to extend the life of your saw’s battery?
Stihl hand saws usually come with a built in rechargeable battery. This makes it convenient to work on your project when you are short on power or when you need to be done with your job quickly. Recharging the battery is easy and it does not take long to do. This makes recharging your battery an important part of ensuring that your saw is ready to go when you need it.
But, in order for your battery to work properly it needs to be charged. It is not enough to just simply put the saw on charge it must be fully charged. And, if it is not fully charged then the battery will not work the way it should. The battery should be completely charged before you use it again to ensure that it works correctly. You should check the battery after each use to ensure that it is fully charged and try to repeat the same cycle that you used to charge the battery.
It may sound strange but try to protect your battery by not overcharging the saw’s battery. Overcharging a battery can lead to overheat which can damage the internal components. This can cause irreversible damage. This is especially true if you happen to accidentally leave the hand saw’s motor running while the saw is still plugged in.
When you find that the battery is fully charged, store it in a dry place away from any heat sources. This can be as simple as keeping it in the same spot where you placed the battery. Another option would be to store the battery in the freezer. Be sure to carefully read the manufacturer’s instructions on how to properly place the battery so that it does not short circuit. If you are storing the battery for an extended period of time, you should attempt to fully charge the battery more than once a month.
If you did not remove the hand saw from its charger when you initially bought it, then chances are that the battery is fully charged. However, this is not always the case. Always try to take the battery out before starting the hand saw up.
Should the battery appear to be completely dead, you should try switching the hand saw on and off several times. This may sound odd, but doing this may actually help you revive the battery. The reason why this works is because the battery will try to begin working again when it realizes that it is fully charged. This only applies if the battery is in its final fully discharged state. If the battery has already reached this point, it will simply die out due to lack of voltage.
Should the battery still not appear to be fully charged after following these steps, then you may need to purchase a new steel hand saw battery. Buying a new battery for your saw can be rather costly. Fortunately, there are a few different options for replacing the existing battery. We will discuss those in another part of the article.
