When you look at the way that carnivorous plants absorb nitrogen, you will notice that these plants don’t seem to fix their nitrogen on their own. Many think this is strange, and it is true that they may rely on their leaves for this nitrogen, but many carnivorous plants actually fix their own nitrogen. This is a little bit strange at first, but when you think about how plants grow, it actually makes a lot of sense.
Plants get what they need to grow by gathering carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. The plants themselves, or rather their roots, pull carbon dioxide out of the air and store it in their roots. That is basically all there is to it. So, you would expect that the plants would breath and the air would be taken in by the roots. That is why some plants can survive in very dry and desert conditions. Other plants, like succulents and cactus, can tolerate very high temperatures.
Now, carnivores do not eat their own leaves. If they could, they would devour their own stem. The reason that they don’t is because the leaves of a plant contain chlorophyll, which is what the plant uses to produce energy. However, if the plant’s leaf is damaged or chopped off, the plant cannot produce any energy and the only way it can survive is to consume carbon dioxide from the air.
So, why are some carnivorous plants so bad for your health? Well, carnivorous plants do require a lot of nutrition to survive, but they don’t over-eat. They also do not get fat. There are exceptions, but most carnivorous plants get a lot fatter than non-canine plants thanks to a certain process.
The way that plants convert their nitrogen into energy is called photosynthesis. Plants only use one kind of nitrogen to create two kinds of food: the amino-acid protein (or amino acids) and the sugar. The nitrogen is stored by the chlorophyll on the leaves. The more leafs there are on a plant, the more nitrogen is used up. In the case of do carnivorous plants, the excess nitrogen is stored by them in their reserves.
A carnivore doesn’t get its food source from the sun; it derives its nourishment from the plant. Because plants absorb a lot more nitrogen than they can use, they must draw it from the air. When a plant has to make use of the nitrogen it has stored up, it must emit some of it through the leaves. And this is how a do carnivorous plants get the extra nitrogen they need to grow better.
A plant with green leaves, then, will not absorb any of the nitrogen that has been dissolved by the air. This leaves the plant without any extra nitrogen; in short, there is nothing for the plant to draw in. The leaves on a plant, then, will contain a lot of nitrogen. The more leaves that have these nitrogen storing capacity, the higher the plant’s level of nitrogen storage. And the more leaves that have high levels of nitrogen storage capacity, the bigger the plant grows; and the bigger the plant grows, the healthier it will be as a result.
Plants are living organisms and need to be cared for very well. A plant is only going to grow properly when it receives the appropriate nutrition. And the right nutrition that carnivorous plants require is a very good one. The better nutrition they receive, the bigger they grow and the healthier they will be. By feeding carnivorous plants a quality product that does not contain any harmful chemicals, you can do your part in helping the environment.
